My mystic believed the importance of devotion Christianity is through act of services and charity. Her known mystical experience was when she went to confess, and she got “overwhelmed” with Gods love. From that day forward, she felt like a new woman. She did have visions, but she did not speak of them. She had Father Marabotto, a spiritual advisor, who wrote about her experiences. He accumulated all her mystical experiences and published in “Book of the Marvelous Life and Holy Teaching of the Blessed Catherine of Genoa”. She had visions of purgatory, saints, and Christ’s crucifixion. These visions occurred after the death of her husband, Julian Adorno, which was in 1497. Her religious beliefs were Catholicism. She wrote down her understanding of Christianity and her own experiences through her book, Treatise on Purgatory". Though, she did not say anything that showed her criticism towards other religious beliefs, she stressed on Catholicism.
My mystic believed in devoting to Lord Krishna through Bhakti. The experiences that he experienced were having intimate one on one conversations with Lord Krishna. He had visions of seeing Lord Krishna and having multiple conversations with him. It happened throughout his life because he claimed that Krishna is found everywhere. His religious beliefs were devoting and worshiping Lord Krishna with divine love. The idea that he came up with was the Bkhaki movement as a way of symbolizing love for Lord Krishna. He did not criticize any religious beliefs, but he did uphold his dedication and devotion to Lord Krishna.
One thing I can conclude about these two is that they both have mystical experiences that universally changed the way they view the divine. One thing that is similar between both mystics is that they both had visions with their God. They also both had a transformation with their religious beliefs after their interaction with their God. One thing that is different between these two mystics is that Catherine of Genoa had mystical experiences regarding Catholicism while Chaitanya Mabaprabhu had mystical experiences within Hinduism. They both also showed and devoted their love for God in different ways. Catherines way was through her charity and service at the hospital while Chaitanya Mabaprabhu was through chanting Hare Krishna and through Bhakti movement.
