Experiences and Beliefs of Meister Eckhart and Kabir
Meister Eckhart was a Christian theologian and philosopher in the medieval age who believed in the unity of the soul with God through spiritual contemplation. He experienced profound mystical experiences characterized by a deep union with the divine. He also talked about the importance of detachment from worldly desires. He believed that through contemplation and spiritual practice, people could experience union with God directly without needing the help of others. Meister Eckhart was critical of religious beliefs that distracted people from developing a personal connection with God. He believed that spiritual growth came from inner meditation and having direct experience with the divine instead of following traditions and not knowing the true meaning of having a relationship with the divine.
Kabir was a 15th-century Indian mystic and poet who believed in the presence of God and the unity of all religions. He experienced spiritual insights through devotion and meditation and expressed his beliefs and experiences in his poetry. Kabir believed in being devoted to god rather than supernatural experiences. His teachings focused on compassion, the importance of selfless service, and being compassionate to others. He was critical of rituals that distracted individuals from the true heart of spirituality. Lastly, Kabir's philosophy outshined religious boundaries and advocated personal relations with the divine.
Meister Eckhart and Kabir had similar beliefs and experiences as mystics. They both emphasized having a personal relationship with the divine and unity of all religions. They believed in having spiritual practices such as contemplation, devotion, and meditation. Kabir's concept of god was abstract. He had ideas from Sufi and Hindu traditions, while Mister Eckhart's concept of God aligned with Christian theology, emphasizing God as the creator and the trinity. Meister's teaching was written in German and Latin, and Kabir expressed his mystical beliefs through poetry and songs. Kabir's teaching challenged religious orthodoxy and social hierarchies; he advocated for a more inclusive spirituality, while Mister Eckhart operated with medieval Christian theology.
